Silfab to Open 120 MW Solar Module Plant in Canada.

A new highly automated PV module production site based in Ontario with a capacity of 120 MW to be reached in two stages - the first 60MW will be completed by the second quarter of 2011 whereas the remaining 60 MW will be finalized by the end of next year. The company is already scouting the new plant’s location and is completing the administrative procedures to register the new Ontario subsidiary.

The new plant will manufacture high-efficiency photovoltaic modules built with monocrystalline and polycrystalline silicon cells with a power up to 300 Wp, suited for both rooftop and ground-mounted applications. Although the facility will primarily target the Ontario market, the new ‘made in Ontario’ Silfab modules will also be distributed across the U.S., thanks to the joint-venture formed by Silfab earlier this year with REgeneration Finance LLC, a premier developer of solar energy projects based in New York.

The installation of the first production line is scheduled by the end of the summer whereas manufacturing operations will start between the end of 2010 and early 2011.

The annual capacity of 120MW corresponds to about 500,000 PV modules, whose energy production equals to the consumption of 13,000 households and CO2 emissions reduction of 95,000 tons/year.

Silfab SpA, headquartered in Padova, Italy, is a vertically integrated provider of PV products and services globally. (6/2/10)
