EDF Energies Nouvelles Building 7-Megawatt (MW) Solar Farm in France.

Now under construction on land belonging to the Narbonne municipal authorities, it is one of the largest solar farms currently under construction in France. Scheduled to enter service by year-end 2008, the solar power plant being built on wasteland in the Malvezy industrial zone of Narbonne (South of France) will supply the grid with the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of over 4,200 people.

First Solar, of Tempe, Arizona, will be supplying 95,000 thin film modules for the project.

Solar photovoltaic has become EDF Energies Nouvelles’ second avenue of expansion after wind energy. The company has commissioned its first solar projects in Italy, Spain and the United States. It aims to build 400 MW of solar generated power by 2011.

EDF Energies Nouvelles had portfolio renewable power of 1,443 MW of worldwide as of the end of 2007. The company has another 1,100 MW in gross capacity under construction. (6/16/08)
