June 13, 2008 – Vol.13 No.12 Iberdrola Renewables and Gamesa Sign Record Turbine Supply Deal. In the largest turbine supply contract ever in the wind power industry Gamesa will supply Iberdrola with 4500 megawatts of wind turbine capacity to be delivered between 2010 and 2012. In the argreement Iberdrola will assign the turbines to projects in Spain, the rest of Europe, Mexico and the United States. The contract includes installation, commissioning, operational services and maintenance during the life of the guarantee. With the agreement, more than 70 percent of Iberdrola’s requirements will be met through 2012. The company’s current development plans call for the installation of 2000 MW of wind capacity per year through 2010. The size of the contract enabled Iberdrola to achieve optimum pricing and conditions, the developer said. Iberdrola also noted that the agreement allows it to meet its turbine supply needs during the coming years for its wind power project portfolio. The two companies have also signed a strategic agreement to jointly promote, develop and manage wind projects in Spain and continental Europe.
Iberdrola Renewables, of Madrid, Spain, has consolidated its world leadership in the wind power sector, with 8,164 MW installed at the close of the first quarter of 2008. The company’s project development portfolio currently stands at 43,280 MW. Gamesa is one of the main wind turbine manufacturers worldwide and leader in Spain in the sector of the manufacture, sale and installation of wind turbines. (6/13/08)
