June 7, 2008 – Vol.13 No.11 PowerGenix to Supply Original Power with Rechargeable Batteries for Portable Lawn and Garden Tools. The company will supply its patented Nickel-Zinc (NiZn) Sub-C cell battery packs for introduction into multiple Original Power product lines beginning in 2009. Original Power will offer a new GreenLink (tm) line of interchangeable cordless tools exclusively featuring PowerGenix’s NiZn battery packs, as well as incorporating the technology into its current lawn and garden power tool lineup. Nickel-Zinc chemistry is to phase-out Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd) batteries due to toxicity Issues and power Improvements. In Original Power product testing, PowerGenix’s NiZn cells were more durable, robust and offered up to 50 percent more power than the same size NiCd cells. PowerGenix’s battery packs supply bursts of high power for extended periods of time with rapid recharge capability, attributes particularly suited as a power solution for lawn and garden applications. Nickel-Zinc batteries are also inherently nontoxic and contain no lead, cadmium or mercury. Joining a growing list of manufacturers and retailers, Original Power will phase out all nickel-cadmium powered lawn and garden products by the end of 2010.

PowerGenix’s patented Nickel-Zinc chemistry is the first rechargeable battery technology to significantly out perform existing alkaline rechargeables while addressing increasing environmental restrictions,” said Dan Squiller, CEO of PowerGenix. PowerGenix has developed and patented a high-energy density, high-cycle life and low-cost Nickel-Zinc battery targeting the market for energy intensive electronics and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). The company is pursuing applications to replace existing Nickel-Cadmium and Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries in the multi-billion dollar rechargeable battery market. (6/6/08)
