ISE Corp. Receives Order for 25 Gasoline Hybrid-Electric Systems; Develops First-Ever CNG Hybrid-Electric Bus.

New Flyer of America has ordered more than two dozen gasoline hybrid drive systems to be installed in New Flyer 40-foot buses for delivery to Long Beach Transit, of Long Beach, California. This new order will increase Long Beach Transit's fleet of buses powered by ISE's ThunderVolt (tm) hybrid drive systems from 62 to 87 hybrid buses.

This order is part of the Montebello Consortium program initiated last year for the purchase of 150 gasoline hybrid-electric 40-foot buses. This is a Federal Transit Administration pooled procurement program that provides 90 percent Federal funding to participating agencies.

ISE's ThunderVolt (tm) gasoline hybrid drive system was certified as an "alternative fuel" system by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in November 2003. Over 100 of these hybrid systems are already in revenue service in various California cities, including Long Beach, Orange County, Norwalk, Montebello, Gardena, San Bernardino, and Fresno.

New Flyer, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, is a leading manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses in the United States and Canada.

The first-ever compressed natural gas (CNG) hybrid-electric bus is now in revenue service with Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) of San Diego, California. ISE developed, supplied and integrated the CNG Hybrid Drive System into a standard 40 foot transit bus that was supplied by MTS. The CNG system is a variant of ISE's line of ThunderVolt (tm) hybrid drive.

The $1 million CNG hybrid prototype bus will cut significant emissions from the already clean-burning CNG buses in the MTS fleet, while providing better fuel economy, more power and a quieter ride.

"ISE is excited to take part in this program to help further improve the environmental impacts of public transit in San Diego," said Gary Willms, ISE VP of Business Development. "Our hybrid system has provided measurable benefits in other California cities, throughout the United States and Canada. We look forward to do the same for San Diego. Our next step is to assist MTS in the testing and evaluation of the CNG Hybrid Drive System performance compared to conventional CNG buses."

ISE Corporation, of Poway,California, is a leading supplier of hybrid drive systems and components for heavy-duty vehicles such as buses, trucks, trams, airport equipment, and military vehicles. (5/5/08)
