Eaton Diesel-electric Hybrid Power Systems for 207 Buses in Guangzhou, China.

The order from Guangzhou Armada Development Corporation and Guangzhou Yiqi Bus Co., Ltd is Eaton’s largest single hybrid power systems order to date. Once deployed, this will also be the largest single placement of hybrid-powered buses anywhere in China. The purchase adds to the initial installation of 30 Eaton hybrid-powered buses announced in January. The buses in the new order will be placed into passenger service throughout the year.

Guangzhou Yiqi operates approximately half of the transit buses in Guangzhou, a city of 12 million people in China’s Guangdong province.

Fuel consumption from the initial placement of buses in Guangzhou since January is nearly 60 percent less than that of the LPG-powered buses currently in service. Fuel cost savings are about 40 percent. The system also provides significant reductions in particulate and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

Wu Wan Cheng director of the board of Guangzhou Yiqi Bus commented on the new order, “We are very confident in the technology that Eaton is providing to Guangzhou Yiqi Bus and to the citizens of Guangzhou with our 207 new hybrid buses. “The initial placement of 30 buses has been very successful. Not only do these buses reduce pollution, but they save fuel as well.”

Eaton’s hybrid power systems are being used in the United States by companies such as FedEx, UPS, Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola, and Eaton’s diesel-electric hybrid power system is currently engineered as a production option in North America at Peterbilt, Kenworth, International and Freightliner. Eaton is also developing hybrid power systems for potential introduction in Europe with leading manufacturers like DAF Trucks and Daimler Trucks.

Eaton Corporation is a diversified industrial manufacturer with 2007 sales of $13.0 billion. (4/10/08)
