December 10, 2007 – Vol. 12 No.38 Samsung Techwin / I Power Energy Systems To Develop, Distribute Packaged Cogeneration System. The joint program will develop a 365kW combined prime heat and power unit for industrial, institutional and commercial applications. The SPG365/ENI365 project includes an agreement for the joint engineering, manufacturing and global distribution. Initial product introduction is targeted for the 4th quarter of 2008. The combined heat and power unit, operating on natural gas, will provide an efficient use of fuels by generating electricity on site to avoid transmission losses while simultaneously capturing and utilizing heat energy that is typically lost in central generating plants. The unit will use a reciprocating engine design. The companies envision the SPG365/ENI365 to be sized to address the growing mid-market segment by providing power in the range from 365kW to over one megawatt combining three units together.
The distribution agreement provides Samsung Techwin exclusive distribution rights for Asian countries that include Far East, South East, and Middle East countries such as Korea, China, Vietnam, and India, Australia, etc., and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries that include Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. I Power will focus its activities on its current marketing channels in North and South America, Africa, and Europe exclusive of CIS members. I Power Energy Systems, LLC is a systems engineering company actively engaged in the creation and application of technology based products in the energy generation and management field. Samsung Techwin Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Samsung Group business scope includes semi-conductors, optics & digital imaging, engines, and defense related technologies. (12/9/07)
