Hydrogen Power Inc (HPI) Advanced Hydrogen Fuel Technology Breakthrough.

The company has announced that its research chemists have developed a new mixture of its proprietary AlumiFuel(TM) powder which significantly enhances hydrogen generation performance.

The modified AlumiFuel(TM) mix uses a higher percentage of aluminum and a lower percentage of the proprietary reactant additive, which accelerates the aluminum-water reaction. This modification also enables a simplified AlumiFuel(TM) manufacturing process. The net result is a 60 percent increase in hydrogen generation yields and a 45 percent reduction in fuel production costs, according to the company.

"This breakthrough almost doubles the energy density of our proprietary AlumiFuel(TM) technology. HPI is now ready to scale-up its in-house AlumiFuel(TM) manufacturing capability to fulfill the hydrogen demands of its target applications,” said Dr. Jasbir K. Anand, HPI's Director of Research & Development.

To generate hydrogen cartridges filled with AlumiFuel(TM) powder are dropped into a reactor and when water is added, high purity hydrogen is generated as a result of the chemical reaction. (The reaction breaks down the water into oxygen and hydrogen through electrolysis.) No external power is required and the reaction produces no toxic chemicals or byproducts.

The hydrogen can be used to energize fuel cells, fuel gas turbines or conventional internal combustion engines.

The company is moving towards the hardware engineering development stage with selected partners. (12/3/07)
