TPI Composites To Open Wind Turbine Blade Facility In Iowa.

The signing of a supply agreement with GE Energy has led TPI to build the new 316,000 square foot facility. The Newton, Iowa plant will create approximately 500 new jobs.

Initially the TPI facility will supply turbine blades for GE’s popular 1.5- megawatt wind turbines, of which there are more than 6500 installed worldwide.

TPI Composites has manufacturing sites in Warren, Rhode Island; Springfield, Ohio; Juarez, Mexico; and TaiCang, China. With the Iowa expansion, the company will reach an estimated 1.1 million square feet of manufacturing space in 2008.

Since 2004, GE has experienced a 500 percent increase in wind turbine production, and expects its wind business revenues to exceed $4 billion this year. Over the past two years, GE has supplied wind turbines representing more than 50 percent of the new wind capacity across the US
