November 6, 2007 – Vol.12 No.33 Horizon Wind Orders 67 Vestas Wind Turbines. With a combined 201 megawatt (MW) capacity the turbines will be installed at Horizon’s Meridian Way Wind Farm located in north central Kansas near Concordia in Cloud County. The order consists of the supply and commissioning of the Vestas V90-3.0 MW turbines, and a five-year service and maintenance agreement. The Meridian Way Wind Farm is Vestas’ largest order for the V90-3.0 MW wind turbine in North America to date. Delivery of the 67 wind turbines will begin in midyear 2008, and commissioning is expected to be completed in 2008. “At both state and federal levels, we are witnessing growing concerns over energy security and climate change, which, in turn, translate into increasing interest in wind power as a clean, reliable and competitive way of generating electricity. Vestas and Horizon are both leaders in their fields, working towards expanding the use of wind power in the USA. With this V90-3.0 MW order, we are taking another important step towards achieving this goal,” says Jens S¯by, President of Vestas Americas A/S
Horizon Wind Energy is currently developing a portfolio of more than 9,000 MW in over a dozen states. By the end of 2007, Horizon will have developed more than 2,000 MW and over 1,300 MW of operating wind farms. Wind Energy is a fully owned subsidiary of Energias de Portugal, S.A., (EDP) a major Portuguese utility and one of the world’s largest generators of electricity from renewable energy sources. Vestas is the world's leading supplier of wind power solutions with a 28 per cent market share and more than 33,500 wind turbines installed worldwide. (11/5/07)
