EDF Energies Nouvelles to Develop Wave Energy Technology.

A partnership agreement with Renewable Energy Holdings plc (REH) covers the development and deployment of the innovative CETO wave energy process in electricity generation projects.

CETO technology is installed on the seabed where it cannot be seen and is sheltered from storms. CETO employs lightweight submarine infrastructure to pump seawater ashore at high pressure to a turbine producing electricity. This technology is already operational in the southern hemisphere.

The agreement has given EDF Energies Nouvelles an exclusive right to use this technology in the Northern Hemisphere and on La Reunion Island. The terms of the deal provide for an investment of £3 million (€4 million, $5.9 million) by EDF Energies Nouvelles in REH.

Those projects will be 51-75 percent owned by EDF Energies Nouvelles and 25-49 percent owned by REH.

EDF Energies Nouvelles operates in four renewable energy segments - wind, solar, biomass, hydro and soon ocean. Wind energy currently accounts for more than 80 percent of its total installed capacity of 1,188 MW worldwide.

Renewable Energy Holdings, a UK company, invests in renewable energy technologies and projects. (1/16/08)
