October 27, 2009 – Vol.14 No.32 Zeco Expands “Greenlots” Charging Network in Singapore with Solar EV Charging Station. Zeco Systems Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based company developing zero-emissions transportation systems, has unveiled Singapore’s first solar-powered Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station. Zeco introduced Singapore’s first electric scooter earlier this year and kicked off its roadmap for an island-wide infrastructure of “re-fueling” stations for EVs with publicly available EV charging points located at hot spots. The Solar Charging Stations are an expansion of the Greenlots (R) charging network for EVs launched by Zeco in March 2009. While existing charging spots at IKEA, INSEAD and PoMo tap into the main power grid for fossil fuel generated electricity, the Solar Charging Station is designed for fast setup and generates clean electricity from solar energy. “Zeco is driven to deliver the world's first zero-emissions transportation system – electric vehicles fueled by a 100 percent clean energy charging network,” said Jan Croeni, Managing Director of Zeco Systems. The standalone off-grid solar charging station captures sunlight by means of four roof-mounted solar panels sponsored by REC. REC is planning to establish the world's largest solar manufacturing complex in Singapore and is partnering with Zeco to rollout the Solar Charging Stations.
“The co-operation between Zeco and Renewable Energy Corporation (REC) is a milestone to pave the way to carbon free urban transportation through solar energy” said Andreas Balzer, General Manager of REC Systems. REC Silicon and REC Wafer are among the world's largest producers of polysilicon and wafers for solar applications. (10/22/09)
