October 28, 2007 – Vol.12 No.32 AeroVironment Wind Turbines Make Potato Chips. Eighteen small wind turbines at a Kettle Foods facility are projected to generate enough power each year (28,000 kilowatt hours) to produce 56,000 bags of potato chips. AeroVironment (AV), a developer and producer of unmanned aircraft systems and efficient electric energy systems, installed its Architectural Wind system on the roof of the new 73,000-square-foot plant Beloit, Wis., manufacturing facility of Kettle Foods, a producer of all-natural potato chips and other snack foods. Wind system played a key role in Kettle Foods’ receipt of the US Green Building Council Gold level certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED (tm) for the facility. AV’s Architectural Wind system is designed for quick and easy installation onto the parapet of a new or existing tilt-up or precast building. The turbines are small and modular and have no structural impact on the building or its roofing system. Architectural Wind is designed to be an attractive clean-energy generating technology for use in both urban and suburban environments.(10/24/07)
