FedEx Express to Add Hybrid-Electric Vans to its European Fleet.

The 10 hybrid-electric/diesel vehicles will bring the worldwide total of hybrid vehicles in revenue service at FedEx to more than 100 in North America, Asia and, now, Europe.

Manufactured by Iveco, the hybrid vans will initially be trialed close to the manufacturer’s facility in Turin, Italy. Over the last two years, Iveco and FedEx have joined efforts to develop the new diesel-electric hybrid vehicle known as the Daily Hybrid. The hybrid van provides the autonomy and fuel efficiency of a diesel vehicle yet can operate on electric power alone for with zero-emissions. It’s now being shown for the first time at the European Road Transport Show in Amsterdam.

FedEx now has 95 hybrid-electric vehicles in service worldwide that have traveled more than one million miles, and has the largest fleet of hybrid-electric delivery vehicles of any transportation company within the United States.

FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., is the world's largest express transportation company.

Iveco designs, manufactures, and markets a broad range of light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, off-road trucks, city and intercity buses and coaches as well as special vehicles for applications such as fire fighting, off-road missions, defense and civil protection. Iveco employs over 24,500 people and runs 28 production units in 16 Countries (10/23/07)
