New and Renewable Energy Centre and Yanmar Start Demonstration of Biodiesel Fueled Micro-Combined Heat and Power Plant.

The 9.9kW unit will run on 100 percent (neat) biodiesel. Yanmar has developed the micro-combined heat and power plant (MCHP) with high energy efficiency and durability in mind. Operating on Biodiesel made from the waste vegetable oil, the company also plans tests in India, Malaysia as well as the UK, the first testing in Europe. Yanmar is also planning testing of the MCHP with various types of biofuels.

New and Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) and Yanmar reached a Joint Research Agreement for biodiesel fuel applications in September and became the first joint research partners in the UK. This test will be conducted in accordance with the agreement and continue at New and Renewable Energy Centre until 2010.

Yanmar, based in Osaka, Japan, is a diesel engine manufacturer founded in 1912.

The New and Renewable Energy Centre Limited is a self-standing but not for profit organization created in the North East of England to be a Centre of Excellence providing enablement, testing and development services to the energy sector. (10/9/07)
