September 15, 2007 – Vol. 12 No.25 BP, Clipper Windpower Begin Construction of Silver Star Wind Project. The 60-MW project in west central Texas in Eastland and Erath counties will utilize 24, Clipper Windpower 2.5-MW Liberty turbines. The Liberty wind turbines, manufactured in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, are the largest built in the US. Silver Star is 15 percent owned by Clipper and 85 percent owned by BP. Completion is expected early 2008. The Silver Star Project, of just over 54,000 acres, is situated on a high mesa. Once built, the project's wind turbines, roads, and substation will utilize less than 1 percent of the overall land area, allowing the continued use of most of the land for ranching. The project will also provide a secondary income to local landowners, (9/14/07)
