Konarka and Toppan Forms Co. Ltd. Sign Agreement to Accelerate the Commercialization of Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) Product Applications.

The agreement will focus on manufacturing OPV products in Japan and commercialize Konarka's Power Plastic (R) technologies. In brief, the mutual goal is to bring Konarka's organic photovoltaic material to market.

Konarka, of Lowell, Massachusetts, is a developer of polymer photovoltaic technology.

Toppan Forms of Tokyo, Japan is a world leader in printing businesses, printable electronics and digital information technologies.

According to Konarka, organic photovoltaic material is a thin layer of polymeric materials, sandwiched between two printed electrodes. It can be manufactured by traditional printing processes and generates electricity upon exposure to light. OPV makes it possible for devices, systems and structures to have their own low-cost embedded sources of renewable power. By combining energy generation and power consumption within the same device, system or structure, Konarka's Power Plastic enables manufacturers to create truly wireless applications. (9/10/07)
