SunEdison: First Phase of Alamosa Photovoltaic Solar Plant Now Operating.

The grid-connected plant in Colorado is now generating about 3.6 megawatts (MW), 44 percent of its capacity. When complete in December the plant will have a capacity of 8.22 MW, enough power for about 1500 homes. At that time the carbon emissions avoided will be equal to 2,840 automobiles driving 12,500 miles annually.

As one of the largest photovoltaic installations in the U.S it will help Xcel Energy meet Colorado’s Renewable Energy Standard (RES). Xcel Energy will buy the solar power generated by the Alamosa plant as well as the renewable energy credits.

SunEdison, of Beltsville, Maryland, is building, financing and will maintain Alamosa. The company, North America's largest solar energy services provider, provides solar-generated energy at or below current retail utility rates. (9/10/07)
