SolarX Energy now offers SolarX Hybrid - a total solar energy solution that couplings thermal (hot water) production output of over 100,000 BTUs per day with electrical power production of up to 1.0 kilowatt per day. The new system combines a parabolic solar thermal collector with peripherally mounted photovoltaic (PV) panels. A tracking device precisely follows the sun's position for maximum solar efficiency and output. In addition to promising cost savings for government, commercial and institutional operations, the unit is a stand-alone energy system for remote areas. The PV panels produce enough energy to power the system's tracking motor, and the excess electric power production can be used or fed back into the grid. SolarX Energy

Philips has introduced hue, the world's first Web-enabled LED home lighting system available direct to the consumer. Offered exclusively through Apple stores beginning on , the hue starter kit includes three LED bulbs that fit into any standard light fixture, a bridge that connects to existing wireless routers. Philips hue sets up in minutes and, with a quick download of the hue application, the system can be controlled from any iOS or Android device. From the app, consumers can remotely control their home lighting for added security, personalize their lighting experience with custom settings, or program timers to help manage daily schedules, all through the convenience of their smart device. Philips will make the hue interface and software development kit (SDK) available to anyone who wants to create additional functionality or applications that interact with the system. The applications will then be tested by the Philips connected lighting team to ensure they are viable. Philips hue

DECK Monitoring offers SolarAnywhere(R) SystemCheck (TM) which integrates the DECK software platform with site-specific satellite irradiance and predictive modeling data with simulation models to provide a detailed predicted power calculator. This calculator accounts for make and model of system hardware (such as panels and inverters) along with panel tilt, azimuth angle, and panel tracking motion. The end result is a performance baseline that is automatically generated within the DECK Admin Panel web page, allowing users to easily chart actual generation against modeled performance. SolarAnywhere irradiance data is calculated from NOAA GOES satellite imagery. DECK Monitoring

Honeywell has introduced a new black laminate film designed to help make black solar panels cooler and more efficient. All-black solar panels are increasingly being used on homes because they blend with rooftops more easily. PowerShield (tm) Cool Black is a backsheet that helps reduce solar panel operating temperature by using a proprietary technology that reflects solar radiation. When panels operate at lower temperatures, their electrical components are able to operate more effectively and generate more power. Independent industry and university laboratory tests have shown that, during periods of peak power demand, solar panels using PowerShield Cool Black are as much as 7 degrees Celsius (12.6 degrees F) cooler, which can increase their power output by 2 to 3 percent. In turn, this increased power output can reduce a panel's cost-per-watt generated by 2 to 3 percent. Honeywell's PowerShield backing system.
