The Climate Trust will buy these avoided methane emissions as carbon credits. Value of carbon credits from a digester estimated to be worth between $300K and $1 million. --- Rio Tinto Alcan and the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF): The $1 million Rio Tinto Alcan Prize for Sustainability 2008 is now open for entries.The Prize is open to all not-for-profit, non-governmental, and civil society organizations based anywhere in the world that are working to advance the goals of economic, environmental, and socialsustainability.
In addition nine grants of $15,000 each will be awarded to the shortlisted NGOs to invest in one of the following three approved courses: the postgraduate certificate in cross-sector partnership at Cambridge University, the LEAD Fellows training programme or the postgraduate certificate in sustainable development from the University of London.
The closing date for receipt of entries is midnight, 12 September 2008 (GMT).

--- The California Energy Commission has announced the release of its first Energy Innovations Small Grants (EISG) for transportation-related research.
The EISG Transportation Program provides up to $95,000 for hardware projects and $50,000 for modeling projects to small businesses, non-profits, individuals, and academic institutions to conduct research that establishes the feasibility of new, innovative energy concepts.
Research projects must target an Energy Commission Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) transportation subject area, address a California energy problem, and provide a potential benefit to California ratepayers.

--- Tucson Electric Power Company (TEP) and affiliate UNS Electric (UNSE) have issued a request for proposals (RFP) for renewable energy and associated credits through power purchase agreements and/or the ownership of generation assets.
The annual aggregate renewable energy purchase and delivery target under this RFP is 150,000 MWh. Although TEP/UNSE prefers to have the renewable generation resource supplied from a site located in Arizona, it will consider proposals that include energy produced outside of Arizona and delivered exclusively to customers in the state.
A bidder teleconference is scheduled for June 19 at 1:30 (MST). Final proposals are due September 5, 2008.

--- Go Solar: Solar Program to Assist Ontario, Canada Homeowners. Go Solar is a Clean Air Foundation program providing a single stop source of information on current incentives for the purchase and installation of solar energy systems for heating water and generating electricity. The program is designed to assist Ontarians in achieving the Ontario government's goal of 100,000 solar roofs.
New solar water heating incentives and rebates total more than $1,300 through provincial and federal government programs. Ontario's incentives for generating photovoltaic (PV) electricity are currently the most generous in Canada. The retail sales tax rebate on qualifying solar, wind, micro hydroelectric and geothermal equipment has also been extended to January 1, 2010.
--- The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) Strategic Technology Office (STO) has issued a Broad Agency Announcement for research, development, design, and testing that directly supports the STO.
