WHAT’S UP WITH RUPERT?

In 140 Tweeted characters @rupertmurdoch said:

“We have to do something about gun controls. Police license okay for hunting rifle or pistol for anyone without crim or pscho record. No more”

Generally it’s the left that wants gun controls. Rupert Murdoch is no lefty. Something’s changed.

The founder, Chairman and CEO of global media holding company News Corp. also Tweeted:

“Climate change very slow but real. So far all cures worse than disease. Shale gas huge breakthrough for US. Half carbon of coal and oil.”

What’s this? Is Murdoch hanging out with Al Gore?

Rupert has 295,000 followers. Al has two and an half million. Rupert isn’t one of them.

So, Rupert is a climate change believer and he thinks it’s us.

(If he didn’t he wouldn’t have Tweeted “Half the carbon of coal and oil”)

Not quite sure what Rupert means by “So far all cures worse than disease.”

He’s correct about shale gas being a “huge breakthrough for US.”

Rupert’s News Corp. has many business units including Dow Jones and Company and Fox Entertainment Group

Dow Jones is the parent of the Wall Street Journal, America’s most widely read newspaper by circulation.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) is considered conservative.

Fox Entertainment Group is the parent of Fox News Channel which is available to over 100 million cable subscribers in the US.

Fox News, particularly its commentary, is considered conservative. Very.

But Rupert has taken a liberal stance on two important issues: Guns and Climate Change

Does that mean his media empire will follow? No. Not necessarily.

Rupert is known to cross the aisle occasionally. He speaks out. He tells it like he sees it.

Probably more than anyone on the planet he knows the power of the news media. The news media sways people’s opinion.

He also knows his Fox News network is the darling of conservatives. He knows the Journal is trusted by global business.

So consider this: If the Journal and Fox started saying something should be done about climate change, it would get done. Very fast.

Rupert needs to Tweet more on climate change.

He needs to Tweet more about “So far all cures worse than disease” so we know where he stands.

The non-Fox, non-WSJ media and their pundits need to note his Tweet on climate change. Make a big deal of it.

The non-Fox, non-WSJ media and their pundits need to connect Rupert, News Corp. Fox and WSJ. (In case viewers/ readers have forgotten.)

No doubt News Corp is powerful. No doubt Rupert is a powerful guy.

Climate change (guns too) needs powerful and, I guess, a moderate voice from the right.
