ELECTRIC MOTOR AND NANOTECH PIONEERS TEAM UP.

Electric propulsion and battery system developers need to work shoulder to shoulder to optimize products and develop new ones for new markets. That‘s what the new strategic alliance of UQM Technologies and Altair Nanotechnologies is set to accomplish.

For more than 25 years UQM has been a leader and pioneer in light, powerful electric propulsion systems and controls for a wide variety of motive applications. The company has built electric drives and components for every imaginable mode of transport from military vehicles to wheel chairs to hybrid electric catamaran yachts.

With its extensive experience, UQM has had little trouble securing contracts from industry and government for advanced electric drive systems, controls and other related widgets.

When UQM was just putting down its roots in the industry, nanomaterials for use in batteries were just a dream; now they are a reality.

As UQM was a pioneer in electric propulsion decades ago, Altairnano is a pioneer in lithium nanotechnology batteries and other nanomaterials today.

Working together the companies say they will be able to accelerate the commercialization of electric drive and electric power generation products as well as products for energy storage.

Altairnano has been providing 10-minute recharge battery packs for use in Phoenix Motorcars’ all-electric sport utility truck. UQM has been providing the 100 kW, 400 ft-lb torque drive system for the vehicle. The collaboration on the project has led to the formal alliance.

Electric vehicular drive is on the upswing. This alliance could advance advanced transportation. Visit UQM at http://www.uqm.com/ and Altairnano at http://www.altairnano.com/
