THE CONTINUING GROWTH OF GLOBAL WIND CAPACITY.
There’s a near endless flow of new wind power for the world.
--- Toyota Tsusho Corporation, a trading company living under the umbrella of the world’s largest automaker, has placed a major order for wind turbines from Vestas Wind Systems: 81, 2.0 megawatt turbines and 31, 3.0 megawatt machines, a total of 255 megawatts of wind capacity.
The turbines will be planted in nine projects in three countries, two of those in Japan that will use the 3 megawatt turbines.
Toyota Tsusho has previously purchased 250 megawatts of turbine capacity for its own projects or distribution. As a trading company Toyota Tsuho can buy and resell wind turbines at a profit. In the ever-growing wind energy market the company should have little difficulty in reselling the machines. Toyota Tsusho has supplied more than 300 megawatts of turbines in Japan and Taiwan to date. --- Siemens Power Generation has been busy taking orders for turbines to be planted in US soil.
Dublin, Ireland based Airtricity has purchased 55, 2.3 megawatt turbines - for 126 megawatts capacity - for the Roscoe Wind Farm near Roscoe, Texas. And, in a project already underway Airtricity is also using 54, 2.3 megawatt turbines -125 megawatts capacity - in its Forest Creek Wind Farm near Sterling City, Texas.
Roscoe will be complete by late fall 2007; Forest Creek will be complete early in the year.
RES Americas has purchased 26, 2.3 megawatt Siemens wind turbines - 60 megawatts capacity for its Whirlwind project in Floydada, Texas. RES is also now in the process of installing 46, 2.3 megawatt turbines - 106 megawatts - for an extension of the Sweetwater Wind Farm near Abilene, Texas. The extension will bring Sweetwater to over 500 megawatts.
Whirlwind will be complete by late 2007, the Sweetwater extension will be complete midyear.
Siemens says it has received orders for more than 1400 megawatts capacity in the US market since it acquired Bonus Energy in 2004. Blades for turbines slated for the US market will soon come from its own shops to be built in Fort Madison, Iowa. Visit Siemens Power Generation at http://www.powergeneration.siemens.com/
-- BP plans to build 550 megawatts of wind capacity in the US in 2007. The projects include: the 300 megawatt, 274 turbine Cedar Creek project in Weld County, Colorado (already under construction); a 65 megawatt project in North Dakota: a 60 megawatt project in central Texas: and a 20 megawatt re-powering of an existing wind energy facility in San Gorgonio Pass in California.
The company plans to incorporate 150 MW of Clipper Liberty turbines in projects slated for construction this year. BP has a five-year 4,250 MW wind turbine supply agreement and strategic alliance with Clipper. Visit BP at http://www.bp.com/ , Clipper Wind at http://www.clipperwind.com/
