WORLD WIND WATCH.

Research and Markets of Dublin, Ireland sells in-depth market research reports on dozens of industries including renewable energy. The reports are extensive and meant for industry professionals and other stakeholders. The company has an impressive list of customers.

(Green Energy News does not buy the reports, but often finds the summaries provided by the company to be newsworthy in themselves.)

In the latest report - The Wind Power Report Ed 3 2006 - Research and Markets forecasts that global wind power capacity will reach 136 gigawatts by 2010, more than twice the capacity that it is today.

Of that 75 gigawatts will be in Europe, 31 gigawatts in North America and the remainder, 30 gigawatts, scattered throughout the rest of the world.

Research and Markets seems bullish on renewable energy but does not shy away from controversial subjects regarding the wind energy industry. The company calls for more discussion on certain issues.

In the summary of this report the author says that “wind power has been promoted for politico/environmental reasons and wind power developers have benefited from substantial subsidies leading to exaggerated claims. A reality check is needed.”

Other concerns are also highlighted.

The report is available for between EUR 1386 and 1537 ($1671 -1854) in various forms at http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c38335

Occasionally opposition to a wind project succeeds.

Catamount Energy and project partner Marubeni Corporation have announced that they are ending the development of the Glebe Mountain Wind Energy Project in Vermont.

Glebe Mountain would have been a 47.5 megawatt, 19 turbine project perched along 3.7 miles of mountain ridge line. Among the complaints by opponents, such as the Glebe Mountain Group, were the violation of land-use protection laws and that power from the the project was to be sold outside the region. The majority of the local community as well as the state’s governor opposed the project.
