GREEN CARS 2006.
The American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) has issued the latest edition of its Green Book (tm). Online and print versions offer an analysis of fuel economy and tailpipe emissions of all model year 2006 passenger vehicles and light trucks sold in the U.S.
As in previous editions Green Book lists the top greenest cars, the best in category and the meanest, dirtiest vehicles.
The top twelve greenest vehicles include:
--- Honda’s Insight, Civic GX Civic Hybrid, and conventional Civic;
--- Toyota’s Prius, Corolla, and the Matrix/ Pontiac Vibe duo;
--- GM’s Chevy Cobalt, Saturn Ion and its share of the Toyota-designed Pontiac Vibe;
--- Hyundai/Kia’s Accent and Rio;
--- Mazda’s Mazda3.
The book is current, all U.S. sold cars available to date. There are new models still being announced that will be available this spring and early summer as 2007 models which should show a high level of greenness: Honda’s Fit, Nissan’s Versa, Toyota’s Yaris and Camry Hybrid, Saturn’s Vue Hybrid and DaimlerChrysler's Caliber, a replacement for the Neon.
