All ABOUT SOLAR.
This week’s news...
BP Solar will add 82 jobs to its flagship solar cell and panel plant in Frederick, Maryland bringing the workforce there to about 500. The plant recently underwent a needed $25 million expansion to keep up with the growing interest in solar energy. Visit BP Solar at http://www.bpsolar.com/
Konarka has received a new $100,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to fund additional research efforts focused on improving the performance of its plastic solar technologies.
While Konarka doesn’t state the efficiencies of its products, it recognizes the need to continue developing new materials that will match that those of silicon solar. If and when they do meet those efficiencies (above 10 percent or so) then their technology could have significant cost advantages - read much lower - over conventional silicon solar. They keep trying and will likely continue to seek more money. Visit Konarka at http://www.konarka.com/ .
