WORLD WIND WATCH.

At least 800 megawatts of new wind capacity. That’s developers have committed to in the week of November 20, 2005.

Spanish wind turbine maker Gamesa will be supplying 400 megawatts of nameplate capacity to Horizon Wind Energy owned by U.S. investment bankers Goldman Sachs. An extension of the agreement could add another 200 megawatts to the initial order.

Deliveries and installation of the two megawatt turbines will begin in 2006 and extend into 2007. The full value of the order is worth up to $700 million with a good portion of that cash going to U.S. workers. Most of the turbine manufacturing will be done in Gamesa’s new U.S. facilities.

Horizon Wind, formerly known as Zilkha Renewable Energy, has not stated where the turbines will be headed but the company has projects in varying stages of development throughout the United States. Visit Gamesa at http://www.gamesa.es/ and Horizon Wind at http://www.horizonwind.com/

Gamesa, too, will be supplying 200 megawatts of nameplate capacity to Swedish energy provider Vattenfall, the fifth largest producer of electricity in Europe. Turbines will be scattered at a number of sites throughout Sweden. Visit Vattenfall at http://www.vattenfall.com/ and Gamesa at http://www.gamesa.es/ .

The Ontario Ministry of Energy has awarded two power purchase agreements to Canadian energy distributor Enbridge that will translate into the construction of 200 megawatts of new wind capacity in the province. The projects will be built on the eastern shore of Lake Huron in Bruce County, Ontario. Construction should begin in 2006.

Enbridge won the first 20-year power purchase agreement under the Ministry of Energy’s Renewable Energy Supply Request for Proposals. The second power purchase agreement came when Enbridge purchased Leader Wind Corp, a subsidiary of Leader Capitol Corp.
