WORLD WIND WATCH.

The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) predicts that total U.S. wind generating capacity will reach more than 9200 megawatts by the end of 2005. 2500 of those megawatts will have been installed during the year, a new record and a growth of more than 35 percent.

And where are those projects?

AWEA has provided A full listing of projects that will be completed in 2005 at: http://www.awea.org/newsroom/2005_projects.pdf as well as a state-by-state map of all wind energy projects at http://www.awea.org/projects/index.html.

The AWEA also has made another prediction. More than 14,000 megawatts of wind generated electricity will by connected to the nation’s power grid by the end of 2007, the time when the current production tax credit is set to expire - again. Wind energy can replace non-renewable natural gas generated power and help control its rising cost they say. Visit the AWEA at http://www.awea.org/ .

Edison Mission Group (EMG, of Irvine, California) has signed a joint development agreement with Midwest Wind Energy of Chicago, Illinois, to to provide funding and other support to advance a series of Midwest’s projects already under development. Midwest has a portfolio of over 700 megawatts wind energy in its yet-to-complete project portfolio.

No projects were specified in the press release but EMG has long-term plans to have 1200 megawatts of wind energy in its portfolio by 2009. EMG already has 318 megawatts in acquired capacity in the states of Iowa, Minnesota and New Mexico.

The Clean Energy Factory, of Nemuro, Hokkaido, Japan has chosen GE Energy to supply 34, 2.5 megawatt turbines for three wind projects in the country. Wind farms totaling 85 megawatts of nameplate capacity will be located on Awaji Island, Hyogo; in Dangamine also in Hyogo and in Hohoku, Yamaguchi. GE already has 38, 1.5 megawatt turbines installed at various projects in the country. Visit GE Energy at http://www.gepower.com/ .

And...Hydro Quebec Distribution has issued a request for proposals for 2000 megawatts of new wind energy to be built in the Canadian province of the company’s name.
