WORLD WIND WATCH.

Vestas Wind Systems will be providing 127, V80 1.8-megawatt turbines for the 228-megawatt Wild Horse wind project in Kittitas County, Washington state.

The first turbine will be shipped in May of 2006 and the project is slated for completion by the end of the year. The project was developed by Horizon Wind Energy of Houston, Texas (formerly Zilkha Renewable Energy) and has been acquired by Puget Sound Energy of Bellevue, Washington.

Vestas has also sold 18, 2.0-megawatt V80 turbines for installation in three projects in the Beauce region of France and 35, 2.0 V80s for what will be Italy’s largest (to date) wind project.

Gamesa has been busy in Italy as well and is building its second wind project there. The 31.45-megawatt project now under construction in the town of Cocullo will have 37, 850-kilowatt turbines.

Gamesa, the world’s second largest wind turbine maker after Vestas, has also completed the installation of 34, 850-kilowatt turbines in the world’s fastest growing economy - China. Visit Gamesa at http://www.gamesa.es/

Gale Force Energy (GFE) of Toronto, Ontario and Padoma Wind Power of California will work together to build up to 500 megawatts of new wind capacity in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba and the Atlantic provinces.

In the terms of the agreement Padoma will assist in the development and funding of GFE's wind farm projects, which range in size from 10 to 200 megawatts.

GFE has about 2000 megawatts of wind capacity under development in Canada. Padoma is responsible for more than 40 wind projects in the U.S. and Europe. Visit GFE at http://www.GaleForceEnergy.com/ and Padoma at http://www.padoma.com/ .

Shell WindEnergy has announced that intends to purchase the Mount Storm Wind Project in Grant County, W.Va. from project owner NedPower Mount Storm LLC. Shell has about 740 megawatts in its worldwide wind portfolio. Visit Shell at http://www.shell.com/renewables

Burgeoning China is flush with cash and willing to spend it beyond its borders. (As long as spending continues to fuel the nation’s economic growth.) Buying more energy capacity is part China’s spending spree.

The result of a new partnership agreement between Hydro Tasmania and China Light and Power (CLP) will bring as much as 700 megawatts of new wind generating capacity to China between 2007 and 2010.

But first in the joint venture known as the Roaring 40’s, Hydro must complete 300 megawatts of wind capacity before the end of 2007 with the AUD $110 million ($83 million) in cash CLP has injected in the partnership. In the terms of the agreement Hydro Tasmania must find a way to pay for the future projects.

The first projects Hydro Tasmania will finish are the 125-megawatt Musselroe and 75-megawatt Studland Bay projects in Tasmania and 50-megawatt projects in New Zealand and China.
