WORLD WIND WATCH.

The U.S. state of New Jersey will get its first utility-scale wind farm. The Jersey-Atlantic wind project will have 5, 1.5 megawatt GE turbines and will be built at the site of the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) wastewater treatment plant in Atlantic City. The turbines will provide about one-half the power needed for the facility.

The project will also be the nation’s first ocean-front commercial-scale wind project.

The project is due to be online by the end of this year. The co-owners of the project are wind marketer/developer Community Energy (CEI), energy provider Central Hudson Energy Group and investment company Babcock and Brown.

The trio will also own a new project slated for Pennsylvania. The Bear Creek project will have a nameplate capacity of 24 megawatts with 12, 2.0 megawatt turbines supplied by Gamesa. Bear Creek will be located near the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Wilkes-Barre.
