ALL ABOUT SOLAR.
This week’s news...
It’s deja vu all over again. After the energy crunch of the early 1970’s every method possible to generate power from sunlight was attempted, including focused energy solar thermal power plants.
Nonetheless they’re back. Solucar Energia plans to build an 11.0 megawatt focused solar thermal power plant in Seville, Spain. Using mirrors to reflect sunlight to a target atop a 100 meter tower, the focused heat of the sun will be used to generate high temperature steam which will be used to generate electricity.
Naturally, the mirrors controlled by computers - heliostats - will follow the Sun as it moves across the sky. Telvent will be supplying the control technology solutions for the solar power project known as PS10. Telvent will also be providing similar technology solutions for a 1.2 megawatt solar photovoltaic project also being built by Solucar Energia
The solar thermal project will be complete by July 2006, according to the company. PS10 is supposed to be first in a series of focused solar power plants that will eventually generate 100 megawatts of power. Visit Solucar at http://www.solucar.es/ Telvent at http://www.telvent.com/ .
