WORLD WIND WATCH.

Dublin, Ireland-based consulting company Research and Markets says that wind power is the fastest growing energy source in the U.S. and could reach 6 percent of the nation’s electric load by 2020.

Where are all the U.S.wind projects and what are the best sites for future development? The company is offering it’s latest wind energy map - U.S. Wind Prospects 2004 Edition.

In a 3 by 5 foot format the new wall map shows:

--- wind resource potential;

--- transmission lines 115 kilovolts and above;

--- wind farms by name and capacity;

--- state policies and incentives for wind energy in an inset;

--- cities, population centers, and insets for areas with high concentrations.

The fee for the map is $363 and is meant for wind energy professionals, would-be wind developers, and very serious wind energy hobbyists.

The latest order for wind turbines from GE is for the Soderglen Wind Project, in the Canadian province of Alberta. The project of 47 1.5 megawatt turbines will be built on 3,900 acres of ranch land at an elevation of 4,000 feet. The project will be visible from Fort Macleod, 20 kilometers away.

The 70.5-megawatt project, being developed through GW Power Corporation and Nexen Inc., will begin construction in the fall of 2005 with completion by the summer of 2006. The project will take financial advantage of Canada’s Wind Power Production Incentive (WPPI), C1.0 cents per kilowatt-hour of electricity produced from wind energy.
