WORLD WIND WATCH.

There’s a new kid on the block. Her name Liberty 2.5 Megawatt. She’s the first in a series of Liberty Series wind turbines to be built by Clipper Windpower.

Clipper, with its first commercial order for 60 turbines, has become the second U.S.- based company to build megawatt-class, utility-grade wind turbines. (The other company is GE.)

The order was placed through competitive bidding by Alliant Energy. The turbines will be installed in a 150-megawatt project known as Endeavor to be built near the Flying Cloud Wind Farm near Spirit Lake, Iowa. The project, also developed by Clipper Windpower, is expected to be complete by the end of 2006.

The turbines, which incorporate some unusual engineering, will be manufactured in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visit Alliant Energy at http://www.alliantenergy.com/ , Clipper Wind at http://www.clipperwindpower.com/

In the Land Down Under Vesta’s will be supplying 48, 1.65 (MW) turbines to be installed at the 79.2 megawatt Emu Downs Wind Farm. Emu will be built north of Perth in the Shire of Dandaragan, Western Australia.

The order is for a turnkey operation. Vestas will deliver, install, commission and maintain the turbines in a two-year agreement. Visit Vestas at http://www.vestas.com/
