WORLD WIND WATCH.

Following its announcement last week that it would build a nacelle factory in Spain, Vestas Wind Systems has now announced it will build a blade factory in China.

The new factory in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA), which will be constructed immediately, will employ 240 and is expected to ship the first set of turbine blades later this year. Those blades will be 39-meter blades for Vestas V-80, 2.0 megawatt turbines. The factory will be able to produce 600 blades per year.

China has plans to build 120,000 megawatts of renewable generating capacity by 2020. Vestas will be ready. Visit Vestas at http://www.vestas.com/

A report from business research and information company Douglas-Westwood says that $13.6 billion will be spent on marine renewables by 2009. Offshore wind and ocean energy are considered marine renewables.

During that period, according to the Refocus Marine Renewable Energy Report, marine renewable installations, mostly wind and mostly in Europe, will be equal 7700 megawatts. Proposals already on the books call for 2333 wind turbines to be installed offshore.

Wave and tidal current marine offshore power generation will continue to grow during the period as well, they say.

While the report is intended for industries and professionals, useful free information regarding the report is available. Douglas Westwood, too, has number of other related reports available for download. Visit Douglas-Westwood at http://www.dw-1.com/
