WORLD WIND WATCH.
Count’em, three new wind farms planned for the U.S. by Irish renewable energy developer Airtricity - all to be built in 2006.
But the company doesn’t stop there.
The company says it will invest a total of $1.5 billion by 2010 in the U.S. wind power market
With an initial investment of $ 270 million Airtricity will build a 125-megawatt wind farm near Abilene, Texas as well as facilities at undisclosed sites in New York and the Pacific Northwest.
The Abilene project co-developer will be Renewable Generation Holdings (RGI) of Austin, Texas and will use turbines from Siemens Wind Power company (formerly Bonus). The other projects will use Gamesa turbines.
Airtricity has set its sights on becoming the largest private wind energy developer in the U.S. Visit Airtricity at http://www.airtricity.com/ RGI at http://www.renewablegeneration.com/
Colorado ranks 11th in U.S. states for wind power potential. That potential will be tapped with a 200 - 300 megawatt wind farm planned for Washington County near the town of Akron.
Greenlight Energy has received approval from the county to build the facility, and construction could begin as early as 2006 as soon as power purchase agreements and additional development work has been completed.
Colorado has a renewable portfolio standard (RPS) that requires the state’s largest utilities to obtain 10 percent of their power from renewables by 2015.
Greenlight completed its development of the 150-megawatt Elk River Windfarm in Kansas in late 2004 and sold the project to PPM Energy. That project is now under construction. Visit Greenlight at http://www.greenlightenergy.com/
