MOST EFFICIENT LIGHTING.

Think the most efficient lights are LED’s or compact fluorescent bulbs? Well, for some applications they are. But if a building is new or undergoing renovations (meaning its walls are torn apart), fiber optic lighting may be the way to go.

Fiberstars (tm) has introduced its energy-saving lighting technology known as EFO. With EFO, which is now available as a full spectrum, natural daylight lamp, one light bulb can provide light to many emitters.

In terms of efficiency the company says one 70-watt EFO lamp can replace eight 50-watt MR16 halogen lamps, an energy savings of 80 percent. The same EFO lamp can replace four 26-watt compact fluorescent bulbs (saving 33 percent) or replace 60, 3-watt LEDs (saving 60 percent).

The downside of fiber optic lighting aside from initial costs? It only makes sense where a number of light fixtures, such as a number of downlights, are used to illuminate one area. And, since fiber optic cables need to be run between emitters, it’s best to install a system when a building is new or being remodeled so that cables can be hidden.
