SOLAR SUBWAY.
High-profile, highly visible projects, that’s what solar energy needs. Let the public see that solar energy works and can be an attractive asset to a building while providing clean power.
Schott solar has completed construction of New York’s first solar-powered subway station - Stillwell Avenue in Brooklyn.
Powering the station (not subway cars) are 2730 building integrated panels that cover the full width of the facility and provide shelter for commuters waiting on the platform. Being translucent the panels also allow 20-25 percent of sunlight to pass through. Power-wise, the 76,000 square foot installation is expected to provide 250,000 kilowatt hours per year for station operations.
The attractive solar roof was installed as part of the reconstruction of the station by New York’s Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and is near Coney Island. Visit Schott Solar at http://www.us.schott.com/
