AVAILABLE TECHNOLOGIES: SOLAR.

Solar electric power and solar thermal technologies are mainstream technologies - just not yet in the U.S.

What’s needed is more public education, more exposure to solar technologies and more money made available for solar projects.

(Your bank should be asking you if you want to borrow money for a solar system instead of a house or new car.)

Sun Edison and BP Solar have announced the creation of a $60 million fund that will lead to the construction of 25 solar power plants in the U.S.

The fund, known as SunE Solar Fund I, will pay for the up-front costs of building and maintaining solar systems installed by qualifying companies. In return, those companies will pay a fixed rate - often below market - over a 10 -20 year term for the electricity generated by the solar system.

A number of major financial institutions provided the funding for the loans and partnership equity. The first three projects - all using BP Solar products - will be installed on Staples office supply stores in California and New Jersey.
