NO NEED FOR A HYBRID?
Keep the SUV. Drive what you like, a Hummer if you will. But please, please do your part in taking care of your home - our home - our small blue planet.
Instead of buying an expensive hybrid you can offset the emissions from your vehicle buy contributing to the construction and operation of renewable energy - wind and solar power plants. Instead of trading in the fuel-hungry vehicle at a tremendous loss you can buy Green Tags, also known as Tradable Renewable Certificates (TRC).
True, your gas guzzling vehicle will still pollute. You’ll still be putting the nation at risk by increasing its reliance on imported oil. And you’ll still see your wallet drain every time you fill up. But, somewhere in the country you’ll be adding energy to the power grid that’s greenhouse gas free.
To celebrate the U.N.’s World Environment Day, Renewable Ventures has launched the Certified Clean Car program where you can offset you car’s greenhouse gas emissions by the purchase of TRCs.
The website for the project has a tool you can use to determine your vehicle’s emissions. Then, purchases of TRCs equal to the amount of your greenhouse gas emissions from your car can be made online. For your effort you’ll be awarded a sticker certifying that your car’s emissions have been offset. Wear it proudly on your bumper.
The program itself has been certified by the Center for Resource Solutions that verifies and certifies TRC’s though its Green-e program.
