WORLD WIND WATCH.

And the winner is... Iberdrola. The Spanish utility company now owns more wind power capacity than any company in the world - 2946 megawatts. Second place goes to FPL Energy at 2741 megawatts. Mum’s the word at Vestas. The company won’t say who or where, but it has said it has received an order for 75, V82 - 1.65 megawatt turbines for a project in the North East region of the U.S.

The order includes installation and a five-year maintenance contract. The turbines won’t be installed until 2006, 33 megawatts in June that year, the remaining 91 megawatts by the end of November. Visit Vestas at http://www.vestas.com/ .

 

The first wind project in the Thatta district of Sindh, Pakistan is under construction.

New Park Energy Ltd (NPEL) has begun installing 45 megawatts of a planned 95-megawatt project. The first turbines are 30, 1.5 megawatt units from GE Wind. The project is the first phase of a larger goal to have 400 megawatts installed in the district by 2007. Later this year an additional 50 megawatts will be installed.

The Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) of Pakistan has a goal to have renewables produce 10 percent of the nation’s energy by 2015.
