WORLD WIND WATCH.
With its environmental impact statement in place, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) has given the go ahead for the construction of the Pine Tree Wind Project for a location in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Mojave, California.
The 120-megawatt project will have 80, 1.5 megawatt turbines as well as a 10-mile transmission line and electrical substation.
With bird strikes becoming a growing concern for the future development of wind farms in general, LADWP has agreed to continue bird monitoring for one year following the first delivery of power from the project. If bird kills are high LADWP will make operational changes to the project to reduce them. Bird migration studies are still underway at the site but so far show that the location is NOT a major flyway for migrating birds.
The project is a step along the way for LADWP to deliver 20 percent of its power to customers from renewables by 2017.

Gamesa still keeps plugging away with wind turbine sales. The company has announced it will deliver 6, 850-kilowatt machines for the Geevagh Wind Farm in Ireland and 12, 2.0-megawatt turbines for the Bear Creek wind farm in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.
Gamesa is the second largest manufacturer of wind turbines on the planet behind Vestas. Visit Gamesa at http://www.gamesa.es/ .
