WORLD WIND WATCH.
AES Corporation, a global power generation firm, has purchased SeaWest Holdings (better known as SeaWest WindPower) for $60 million.
In the deal, AES will take control of 500 megawatts of wind generating capacity in California, Wyoming and Oregon. The company will also have 1800 megawatts of development sites in 10 western states as well as 100,000 acres of land ripe for wind power development.
In 2004 AES invested in U.S. Wind Force, which has wind projects operating or under development in 13 U.S. states. Visit AES at http://www.aes.com/
With financing in place, UPC Wind can now go ahead and build the 30-megawatt Kaheawa Pastures wind project for the Hawaiian island of Maui.
The project is being built to comply with Hawaii’s Renewable Portfolio Standard enacted in 2004. Visit UPC at http://www.upcwind.com/ .
Windy Canada is slowly getting into the wind energy business.
GE Energy has announced it will be supplying 66, 1.5 megawatt turbines for the soon-to-be-constructed 99-megawatt Erie Shores Wind Farm. To be complete early in 2006, the facility will be one of the largest in Canada. The project will be built - not surprisingly - along the Canadian shore of Lake Erie, between Copenhagen and Clear Creek. Visit GE energy (wind division) at http://www.gewind.com/ .
