WORLD WIND WATCH.
Build it and they will come. People will buy wind power if its made available to them. At least that’s what Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OG&E) says.
One year after launching its wind power program nearly 9000 customers have subscribed; of those, about one third are buying 100 percent wind power. OG&E first offered the renewable energy at the State Fair of Oklahoma last year and has since launched a website where customers can sign up on line. Power for the program comes from the 50-megawatt Oklahoma Wind Energy Center. Visit OG&E at http://www.oge.com/
Siemens has announced that ScanWind, a Swedish-Norwegian manufacturer of wind turbines, is using its direct-drive permanent magnet generator in a 3.0 megawatt turbine installed on the coastline near Hundhammerfjell, Norway. The generator is 98 percent efficient and is low maintenance. Visit Siemens at http://www.siemens.com/ad-picture/829 and ScanWind at http://www.scanwind.com/ .
