GREEN BUILDINGS RISING.

Turner Construction, one of the leading builders of commercial buildings in the U.S., is decidedly upbeat about the future of green buildings. In polling 719 building owners, developers, architects, engineers, and consultants on various green building issues they report that....

--- 93 percent of executives working with green buildings expect their workload to rise in the next three years (That is, they expect more green buildings to be built.)

--- 30 percent of executives NOT working with green buildings thought it was likely they would be in the next three years.

And on investment and cost factors...

--- About 75 percent working with green buildings said that green buildings had a higher return on investment (ROI) than non-green buildings.

--- 47 percent of those NOT working with green buildings believed that green buildings had a higher ROI than non-green buildings.

--- 36 percent of executives at firms with six or more green buildings said operating costs were lower.

--- 19 percent of executives at firms with one or two green buildings said operating costs were lower.

--- But 80 percent of ALL executives (those with green building experience and without) said the additional up front costs of green buildings are repaid through lower operating costs AND other benefits such as better health and productivity. (Executives say it costs about 14 percent more to build a green building.)

Turner has about 85 green buildings valued at $7.6 billion either built or under construction. Visit them at http://www.turnerconstruction.com/
