August 8, 2004 – Vol.9 No.20
VOTE FOR RENEWABLES.
Colorado will be the first state in the U.S. to vote for more renewable energy. At the ballot box on November 2 voters will be able to vote yes for the Colorado Renewable Energy Initiative, a renewable portfolio standard that will require that 10 percent of the state’s power be generated from renewables by 2015. (About 2 percent is renewable now.)
There is opposition, of course. Xcel Energy which wants to build more wind capacity in the state (see World Wind Watch), also wants to build a new coal-fired plant there.
There’s more information about the Initiative at http://www.renewableenergyyes.com/ including a petition requesting that Excel stop their opposition to the Initiative.
