WORLD WIND WATCH.

Vestas Wind Systems, with partner KBR Halliburton, has been awarded a contract by Barrow Offshore Wind Ltd. (BOW) for the construction and operation of a turnkey offshore wind farm in the U.K.

The 90-megawatt Barrow Offshore wind project, being developed in the Irish Sea seven kilometers off the coast of Walney Island, will comprise of 30 Vestas V-90 3.0 megawatt turbines. Under the contract Vestas/ Halliburton will also be responsible for installation, foundations, offshore infrastructure, remote monitoring as well as operation and maintenance for the first five years.

The contract is valued at EUR 110 million ($135 million) and the project is set to be completed in 2005. Visit Vestas at http://www.vestas.com/ .

 

Invenergy Wind has received power purchase commitments from three Wisconsin utilities for a proposed wind farm in that state - Forward Energy Center.

To be built in Fond du Lac and Dodge counties, Forward will have an output capacity of at least 130 megawatts. Wisconsin Public Service has committed to 70 megawatts of output, Madison Gas and Electric 40 megawatts and Wisconsin Public Power 20 megawatts.

The project, which could be complete as early as August 2005, still needs approvals from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, local counties and the Midwest Independent System Operator for grid connection. Visit Invenergy at http://www.invenergyllc.com/  .

 

Navitas Energy has submitted a proposal to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) of Winnemuca, Nevada for an 80-megawatt wind farm to be known as the Getchell Wind Farm.

To be built in the Dry Hills near Nevada’s Osgood Mountain, the 40-turbine facility could begin construction in the spring of 2005, completion 6-9 months later. Visit Navitas at http://www.windpower.com/ .
