POINTS OF INTEREST.
Slowly, and with bumpy start, mitigating climate change is becoming an industry.
Taking action on climate change by shifting to clean and renewable energy has a host of positive side effects. Clean energy will help clean the air and water. Renewable energy will supply new sources of energy as oil and natural gas supplies sag. Providing new sources of energy and clean technologies can also provide economic opportunities: business and jobs are created.
Nations around around the globe that see a need to address climate change are doing so. But while at the Federal level the U.S. is disinterested, almost a third of the States now have Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) that were created, in part, to deal with climate change. Those states will be addressing climate change through those laws.
So, as nations, and states, are seeking to develop renewable energy projects - solar, wind, biomass - those with the authority to move projects forward are seeking, developers, contractors and suppliers to get them built.
But as a developer or a company wishing supply services and components for these projects how do you know where they are and who wants them built? Where do they start to look for this information?
One possibility is a not-for-profit organization known as the Development Gateway an enabler of economic development, particularly for developing countries. Their website, including the related DG Market website, offers an extensive listing of all kinds of projects (more than energy), pending or planned, as well as requests for services, suppliers for those projects as well as other information and resources.
Through the Web free e-mail updates are offered, but more extensive services require a paid subscription. Visit The Development Gateway at http://www.developmentgateway.org and DG market at http://www.dgmarket.com/ .
