NEW SOLAR TECHNOLOGY IN PRODUCTION.
ATS (Automation Tooling Systems) has opened Canada’s first full-scale solar cell manufacturing plant and has unveiled its new photovoltaic technology - Spheral Solar Power (tm)
The technology uses silicon spheres embedded in foil laminate. The resulting products are solar cells that are light, flexible, durable and can be manufactured in a variety of colors.
The 193,000 square foot plant will be able to produce 20 megawatts of solar power each year. Plans are to increase plant output capacity to 40 megawatts each year.
Compared with oil, a 40-megawatt capacity Spheral Solar plant producing one barrel of silicon spheres each day produces the energy equivalent of 14,000 barrels of oil. A 40-megawatt factory will produce enough cells for 12,000 to 16,000 residential solar systems each year.
