POINTS OF INTEREST.
A weekly collection of websites worth visiting.
Let me be frank for a sentence or two. Anyone who doesn’t think there are economic opportunities - business, employment, investment - in green energy is seriously misinformed.
This editor is frequently sent information about new products and new technologies companies are trying hard to market and sell.
Here are the latest.
-- Carmanah Technologies Corporation, a maker of solar-powered LED lighting solutions for the transit, marine, aviation, roadway, railway and industrial worksite markets, is now selling i-SHELTER(tm) solar-powered LED lighting systems for bus shelters.
The systems will provide safety and convenience lighting at bus stops without the need and expense of a grid connection. The company has just received an $81,000 order from the City of West Covina, California that could lead to an order almost twice that size.
For Carmanah's lighting solutions for public transit, visit http://www.transitlights.com/ and its other solar lighting products at http://www.carmanah.com/ .
-- Gual Industrie of France has developed a new kind of vertical axis wind turbine that can be building-integrated or free-standing on a tower. The design is not typical of other vertical axis, egg beater type turbines, but is worth investigating further.
The design in some ways appears very simple compared with other designs. Simple means simple to manufacture, which should keep costs down. From the renderings offered in the company website the design looks sturdy, too, and can generate electricity at high wind speeds. The company, by the way, is seeking investors. -- Largo Scooters of Key Largo, Florida is offering Stealth Hub motor conversion kits to convert ordinary bicycles into front-drive, hybrid-electric bikes. The conversion kit using a wheel hub motor, controls and battery pack was developed by the company which also sells other electric bikes and scooters.
