WORLD WIND WATCH.
With confidence that the production tax credit (PTC) for wind energy will be passed by the U.S. Congress, and signed into law by President Bush, Invenergy has announced it will go ahead with the construction of the 27-megawatt Buffalo Mountain Wind Energy Center in eastern Tennessee.
To be built on a mountain ridge in Anderson County, near Knoxville, the Center will have 15, 1.8 megawatt Vestas turbines. Power will be sold to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) under a 20-year power purchase agreement. The TVA will resell the wind-generated electricity in its Green Power Switch program.
The new Buffalo Mountain turbines will join three others already installed in the ridge. The project is slated to be operational by the end of 2004. Visit Invenergy at http://www.invenergyllc.com/ and Green Power Switch at http://www.tva.gov/greenpowerswitch .
